Another Message during Coronavirus Shut-down (15 May):
It has been eight weeks now since we’ve had to close our doors as per the recommendations of our federal, provincial, and regional governments to help stem the spread of the COVID-19 virus. It has not been an easy time to cease being together. We missed celebrating Holy Week together in person before the altar of our Lord Jesus; we did not get to raise our Alleluia’s high together on Easter morning; and still we wait for the day we can return to the Lord’s House to celebrate Jesus’ victory over Sin, Death, and the powers of Hell.
Yet, in this meanwhile, we know and boldly confess that Christ our Lord has NEVER left us nor forsaken us! His Holy Spirit is always with us! The wonders of Jesus’ death and resurrection are our gift and blessing forever no matter what!
Christ is Risen! He is risen, indeed! Alleluia!
Waiting is never easy. The services are not the same online; and they are not meant to be. Vicar and I have wanted to keep the online services a little different, in part to allow you to add your own devotional hymn to your Sunday morning devotional time, an in part to keep these different from our Sundays when we gather together. I am hoping that you are praying with me all the more fervently for the day we can gather together again because this is just not the same thing as being God’s people together!
The Board of Elders, Vicar, and I are working on how we will celebrate the Lord’s Supper together once we are permitted safely to gather again. This will be a slow process, so please bear with us. There will be some changes to how we do things together, but rest assured, just because some ‘hows’ are changed, we still worship Father, Son, and Holy Spirit and receive from Him every grace upon grace which He continually showers upon us from above!
In the meanwhile, please keep making use of our worship services and materials. Services will keep going up every Saturday night until we can gather again. If you know of anyone who cannot access the internet and the services there, printed sermons are available for picking up at the church, or can be emailed to you to print off for them. The Canadian Lutheran periodical is also available at the church if you want to pop by and pick one up! Just ring the buzzer and the Vicar can help you out!
Bible Classes will also continue until the end of June on Sunday mornings at 11am with Vicar Peschel (Letter to the Ephesians), and Thursday nights at 7pm with Pastor Kuhl (Gospel of St John). Email us for the connection information and join in on the study of our Lord’s Word.
Also, please make use of the hymns that have been added for you to listen to, singalong with, and simply enjoy at home. Thank you to Courtney for putting these things up for us on the website with all the texts and video editing! Thanks also go out to Kevin, Daniel, Laureen, Jocelyn, and Vicar for your help in recording these treasures.
Should anyone or any family desire to receive the Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus, please email the church office and I will make a way for you to receive that most precious gift.
Do not be afraid to reach out and call or email. It is good to keep contact and conversation one with another! God bless and keep you, one and all!
In Christ’s service,
Pastor Joel Kuhl
Dear Fellow Redeemed,
Our Lord Jesus Christ supplies us with our living breath now and into eternity. In His Church we receive the gifts of life: the washing of Holy Baptism, the precious Words of Absolution that envelop and enliven us when sins pull us down, and of course, the great blessing of Christ’s own body and blood in Holy Communion. We are washed, renewed, fed, and uplifted by our Lord Jesus... so much blessing we want and desire to respond with love and appreciation to the One who has given our very being to us.
This is why we give offerings. As Christians, we are not required to tithe as in the Old Testament days. We are free in Christ to give as we are able. For those who cannot give as much are under no compulsion to give, for our Lord Jesus only ever wants to be the One who gives life and grace to us! And for those who have been blessed by much, they can in turn bless others from their storehouses.
Your gifts to the Lord’s kingdom work is greatly appreciated. They keep the doors open, the House of the Lord in good order, the services running smoothly, and give us all a place to meet and support one another in any need.
During this time of Coronavirus COVID-19 crisis, the bills of the church still arrive, and if you are able to continue giving your gifts, they will go a long way to keeping everything running in order.
In Christ’s service,
Rev Joel V Kuhl, Pastor
